I believe the first time I actually got to see Hawk and Animal with Paul was around 1985 or so at TBS (in Atlanta, GA) for tv taping which was World Championship Wrestling. My God! They were huge guys even Paul. I was always a little bit smitten with Hawk. He just has this raw sexiness about him. Animal was so cute and just looked like he was adorable...and they lived up to every thought I had and even more. I remember doing some drawings and they signed them and Paul telling me how good I was. Also Animal was extremely friendly to me. Hawk was very polite and said he liked my work and I felt weak in the knees. Eventually from then to later years, I would stay at the same hotel they did..HoJo's near the airport right next to the Waffle House and get to talk to them away from the arenas and tv taping. Joe was always stopping to say hello and let me get pics. I never saw Paul that much and my heart couldn't take too much of Hawk...LOL! I really began to enjoy my talks and short visits especially when Animal and Hawk knew I had a shirt or drawing for them. They were so sweet to me. I remember sitting behind Hawk at the bar and my friends teasing me because I was afraid to ask him to move his chair? Why? Because then I would have to speak to him...DUH! The day I got my pic with him was so funny because my friends knew i wanted to do it but i didn't know if I could stand still. He laughed because he knew i always was cool around Animal and nervous around him so he grabs me and says "Now you can't run!" and smiled and laughed. What a great smile. It was pretty cool to have that moment with him. Even when I told Animal one day that I didn't think I would be back for awhile to see him..he looked at me and smiled and said "Yes you will." and you know what? I did.

Even as I grew up and they kinda faded in to the background of wrestling...I had heard about Hawk and some of his problems but I never judged him but kept him as I did all the wrestlers in my prayers. I even got to go to Boston for the Wrestlemania when Stone Cold beat HBK with Tyson as referee and saw the LOD wrestle one last time. I got a bit teary eyed after the match because I really had missed them more than I knew. But I did, 1 last time on RAW and when I heard "THE WARRIOR POP" and "What A Rush!" my heart dropped and I started to cry in between my phone ringing from my friends calling to see if I was going crazy....HELL YEAH!!!!

The day I heard Hawk had passed away is a blur. I still cry alittle sometimes and just feel so honored to have be able to share a lot of time meeting and talking....and drooling over them. I am so happy that Hawk was at peace when he passed. I cry even more for Animal who lost a lifelong brother, friend and partner. Mike Hegstrand.....I know that you are at peace and THANK YOU for the few moments I got to stand in your presence....WHAT A DAMN RUSH!!!!!
